Dream intimate beach wedding on Erakor Island | Carlos and Jordana | Cross cultural destination wedding | Vanuatu wedding photographer

Erakor island resort is nestled in crystal clear waters just offshore from Port Vila, Efate. A mere 20 minutes drive from Bauerfield International Airport and 10 minutes drive from down town, plus of course the 5 minutes ferry ride across, Erakor Island Resort sums up the laid back vibe that Vanuatu and its people are well known for. Bungalows are spread along the beach, with honeymoon suits easily recognized by the infinity plunge pools that overlook the turquoise blue lagoon and face the sunset. A sandy path allows lovers and families to wander around the island, taking in the breathtaking views of the surf breaking ashore on the one hand, and the tranquil lagoon waters on the other hand, while the heart of this enchanting wedding venue is all about lush green jungle. And for those who would rather enjoy the sunset comfortably and preferably with a colorful cocktail in hand, the restaurant’s deck is just about the perfect spot. Hence, it isn’t surprising that, with a range of wedding packages available and a dynamic team to coordinate on site, Erakor Island Resort has easily become a couple’s favorite when it comes to Vanuatu wedding venues.

Carlos and Jordana met in Europe, while Jordana, who is based in Australia, was traveling with friends. The two of them hit it off right away, and soon late night talks carried them around dreaming of a future together, preferably under the South Pacific sun. Getting married in Vanuatu was a way for them to celebrate this new begins with a tropical note, and Erakor Island Resort was the perfect venue to have their closest friends and family gather for an intimate, soulful wedding.

Their special day and ceremony included personal touches, such as bride and bridal party robes, Jordana having her hair and make-up done by her younger sister and all time friends, a first look with her father in her voluptuously flowing dress and romantic boho flower crown, a 13 -yes, 13- feet long veil, their own vows, exchanged under a tropical flower arch, and a ring blessing by all their guests. There were many, many happy tears rolling down cheeks that day. And I would lie if said the pure love and emotional bond that these people share didn’t get my throat itchy and my eyes teary.

This is one of the things I loved most about capturing special events such as weddings. Regardless of the weather, the venue, the traditions, there is always something, little or obvious, big or small, that tells a story about a couple, about who they are as one, about what marriage is to them, about the unique promises they make, vows they take and commitments they wish to celebrate.

Jordana and Carlos’ love is fierce and passionate, runs deep and is rooted in respect and admiration. They truly seemed to become one. One kiss, one heart, one soul set on fire by a blazing sunset.

M+E: Boho Romance in the Canary Island
Some might call it remote. Some might call it hostile. Most will call it mesmerizing. La Graciosa. The name itself feels like a tale of wind and sand, of men and sea, of sun and dunes. To get there you will have to fly to the Canary island of Lanzarote, drive up north, take a ferry and leave it all behind for days, for weeks, for months, for years. You decide. When you reach, the little harbour village is all white and blue against the vast landscape and sleeping volcano. The moment you set foot on the wharf, it is like the island casts a spell on you and you are under its charm. This is where Oli and I met Eduardo and Miriam. And they, to ...
