SUNRISE UNDERWATER COUPLE SESSION I VANUATU HONEYMOON I ADVENTURE SESSION

Elopement honeymoon Love story underwater couple session

It’s just after 5am when Oli comes to wake me up with a gentle kiss. He has slightly lifted up shutters from our room, and I can see the first morning light coming in, a gentle greet, an invitation to go out and play. “It’s time” he says with a smile. It’s time indeed. I’m not a morning person, by far, but some things get me out of bed in no time: heading to the airport for an early flight, hiking to a waterfall, taking the paddle out for a morning surf with baby Moira, or heading to a sunrise couple underwater session at a local surf spot, like this morning. These underwater sessions are so special. They bring Oli and I, and our respective passions for surf and photography, together. So I get out of bed, hop in my swimsuit and board shorts, grab my gear bag –which today includes snorkel as well as photography- and a towel, thank Oli for the coffee he’s prepared for me in my take away mug and off we go. As we arrive by the beach, Simon and Marie are already there, enjoying the sunrise with a coffee in their hands too. We’re all smiling. Let’s do this.

As we get in, Simon and Marie ask about my process with underwater couple sessions and underwater couple photography in general. As I explain to them, more than ever, it is important to me to communicate with my couple, to understand who they are, and also what their relationship is to the ocean: is this just something fun they thought they would do while on a holiday here in Vanuatu, while their daily life doesn’t necessarily include regular visits to the ocean, or are they aquatic humans, incurably drown to the sand, salt and sea. Knowing this allows me to identify where to go, if we shall stay near shores where the waters are shallow and crystal clear, or can we head out to the surf break and create magic in the waves. Either way, there are tips and tricks I can give to a couple, to help them ease into this special date and photo session. To start with, just hold hands, close your eyes, and breathe in, breathe out, feel the gentle breeze and ocean scent… then, follow my lead…

B+S: Beach babes in the golden Vanuatu sunset
Ben surfs barrels like he was born from the ocean. Sandrine dances on the enchanting rhythms of Tahiti with the grace of the sun. They have known each other since they were 16. That was 25 years ago. Hard to believe! They just look so young at heart and smitten, it seems like they have just met and swept each other off their feet. Honestly, if I have ever seen a man look at a woman like she is his everything, it's Ben looking at Sandrine. And if I have ever seen a woman smile at her man like he is the only star in her entire sky, it's how Sandrine looks at Ben. And call me corny, call me hopeless, but boy, that kind of love... sigh. I want to ...

New Caledonia Elopement at Le Meridien Noumea | Edward and Yukine | Cross cultural destination wedding | Pacific Islands Adventure Elopement Photographer
If there is one thing that is amazing about new technologies and social media, it’s how it has enabled people to connect from anywhere and everywhere in the world. Yukine found me and contacted me through Instagram from her home in Japan. It was late at night here in port Vila, i was tucked in my bed ready to switch the lights off when the notification came in. Yukine explained to me that her fiancé Edward and herself were planning their destination elopement in Noumea, the capital city of one of the South Pacific jewel islands: New Caledonia. It was their dream for them to get married by the turquoise blue waters of the new Caledonia lagoon. ...

H + L Love off the coast of Africa
Fire. This is the word that comes to my mind first when I go back to this afternoon walk on a little island off the African coast with Hector and Laura. The wind that day was unforgiving, the sand whipping, the ocean angry. Yet, these two had not a care in the world for mother nature's moodiness. Quite the opposite, in fact. Their passion and free spirits actually matched the wildness of this awe inspiring landscape perfectly. They raced with the wind, hand in hand, laughing like children. They kissed the taste of salt carried by the sea on each other's lips and it made them thirsty for more. They played and fooled around like mad people i ...
