K+J’s | Tailor made adventure elopement in Port Vila Vanuatu

Elopement featured Love story Wedding

Katie-Lou:

“James and I met at work a year ago and it was love at first sight! We took a while to become friends, and once we got the courage up to admit to our feelings, we have been inseparable!!! We love driving with each other, going on road trips, being spontaneous, listening to music, talking, laughing. We are both passionate people and share our love for each other constantly. He is my dream come true! ”

Inseparable. Passionate. And true.

They are indeed all of it, and so much more. They are friendship set on fire. They look at each other like everything begins and ends with each other. They are soulful and wholehearted. I felt all of this and much more when I arrived at Cocomo resort in port Vila and she opened the door to me. We sat down, the three of us, outside on the terrace, we hadn’t had a chance to meet in person before the day like I usually like to. That’s ok though, the connection with them was so easy. We spoke about literature and the power of words –Katie Lou is a writer, and we spoke about France as well, as she and James both have ties to the country, and I am French. We got carried away sharing stories and before we knew it was almost time for them to get married. I brought out my camera and started capturing each precious moment, as they were getting ready together, as he buttoned up her dress, and as she fixed his buttonhole, as they had a last vape on the terrace overlooking the mangrove, and as they walked down the aisle together, holding hands to the sound of Train’s “Marry Me”. It was perfect. The way they looked at each other. The way they giggled. The sand at their feet. The pure joy. It was, truly, perfect. Honestly, everybody knows by now that I love elopement and intimate weddings, rarely though have I felt such intensity before the ceremony even started.  After they said “I do”, we drank champagne, hugged and drank more champagne before hopping in the car, heading to one of my favorite spots for photos on Efate, the Pango lighthouse. As expected, we had the place all to ourselves. The coastline there is rugged, with the surf crashing in on the reef, and the sun setting behind us lighting the whole scene with pink and golden tones. It was truly the perfect place to capture these two in all their passion, playfulness and intimacy.

That’s what I love so much about elopements. There is something wild and free about them. I absolutely love having the chance to drive off with a couple who just said their vows, go everywhere and anywhere they want to, be the witness of this sparkle of pure joy in their eyes, listen to their giggles, capture the long looks into each other’s eyes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying couples opting for a more traditional wedding don’t have this happiness and wholeness in their eyes, they most definitely do and for different reasons, I love traditional weddings involving family and friends… it’s just, the timing of their day is different, and I get to spend real quality time with couples eloping, it gives me a chance to get to know them better, it gives them a chance to open up to me more, and it shows on photos.

See for yourself…

New Caledonia Elopement at Le Meridien Noumea | Edward and Yukine | Cross cultural destination wedding | Pacific Islands Adventure Elopement Photographer
If there is one thing that is amazing about new technologies and social media, it’s how it has enabled people to connect from anywhere and everywhere in the world. Yukine found me and contacted me through Instagram from her home in Japan. It was late at night here in port Vila, i was tucked in my bed ready to switch the lights off when the notification came in. Yukine explained to me that her fiancé Edward and herself were planning their destination elopement in Noumea, the capital city of one of the South Pacific jewel islands: New Caledonia. It was their dream for them to get married by the turquoise blue waters of the new Caledonia lagoon. ...

B+S: Beach babes in the golden Vanuatu sunset
Ben surfs barrels like he was born from the ocean. Sandrine dances on the enchanting rhythms of Tahiti with the grace of the sun. They have known each other since they were 16. That was 25 years ago. Hard to believe! They just look so young at heart and smitten, it seems like they have just met and swept each other off their feet. Honestly, if I have ever seen a man look at a woman like she is his everything, it's Ben looking at Sandrine. And if I have ever seen a woman smile at her man like he is the only star in her entire sky, it's how Sandrine looks at Ben. And call me corny, call me hopeless, but boy, that kind of love... sigh. I want to ...
